Atom/Spin Research Group
| Research generally concerns single and multiple particle interaction phenomena,
studying the structure and scattering dynamics of atoms, molecules and
surfaces. Experimental studies are based on the use of atomic particles
(electrons, positrons, ions and photons) as probes and particle spectroscopic
methods. The techniques
include the use of incident electron, positron and ion beams, high resolution
electron energy analysers, polarised electrons and polarised atoms,
electron-photon and
(e,2e) angular and polarisation coincidence techniques, multichannel
plate position-sensitive-detectors, high/ultra-high vacuum technology,
energy analysis and
detection of charged particles, photon polarimetry, thin film
techniques and computer control of apparatus. Surface Science
facilities of LEED, AES, XPS and
EELS are used and the University service facilities in the Electron
Microscopy Centre and the Crystallography Centre are available. Enquiries from prospective students and sabbatical visitors are
welcome. Representative studies are indicated in the following pages: Projects |
